About the Event
The Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics commemorated its 100th birthday, June 1-2, 2006.
The schedule of events included a picnic, recognition dinner, tours, speakers, and other special events. The Engineering Science and Mechanics faculty (past and present) and students were able to reconnect with each other through a series of talks, social events and informal gatherings.
A booklet of our Centennial Fellows is available for download.
Upon Professor Charles E. Paul's resignation in 1908, Paul B. Breneman was invited to head up the new Department of Engineering Mechanics and Materials of Construction--a post he held until his retirement in 1938.
His research interests were in the strength of screw threads, strength of timber, and heat treatment of steel.
